Lower-GWP Refrigerants FAQs
Find answers to common questions about our Lower-GWP Refrigerants collection.
1 What does lower GWP mean?
Global warming potential compares a refrigerant's climate impact with carbon dioxide over a specified time horizon. Lower GWP does not imply compatibility with your existing system.
2 Can I replace R410A with R32 or R454B?
No simple substitution is approved. R32 and R454B have different properties and A2L safety requirements; use only equipment designed or expressly approved for them.
3 Can R448A or R449A replace R404A?
They may be retrofit candidates for certain commercial systems, but not simple top-offs. A qualified technician must review controls, valves, oil and approved manufacturer instructions.
4 Which lower-GWP products does Freonwell list?
The collection includes refrigerants such as R32, R454B, R1234yf, R448A and R449A for different applications. Check each live product for stock and specifications.
5 Are all lower-GWP gases flammable?
No. Safety classification depends on the gas. R32, R454B and R1234yf are A2L; consult the relevant Safety Data Sheet and equipment requirements.
6 Can I put R1234yf into an R134a car?
No. Use the refrigerant specified on the vehicle's under-hood label and compatible service equipment; never mix them.
7 Do A2L cylinders need special handling?
Yes, applicable safety, storage, service-equipment and transportation rules may differ. Follow the product Safety Data Sheet, manufacturer guidance and local regulations.
8 How do I choose a lower-GWP option for an older system?
Start with the equipment label and approved retrofit documentation. Have a qualified technician assess compatibility, performance and safety before any conversion.
