FAQ
Is this an empty tank or is it pre-filled with other gases?
This canister contains 30 pounds of refrigerant.
Is R22 flammable?
❌ Non-flammable!
R22 belongs to the A1 safety classification, which means low toxicity and non-flammable.
It is safer than R32, which is rated A2L (slightly flammable).
Is it necessary to change the lubricating oil when using R410A?
No need to replace the lubricating oil!
R22 systems are designed to use mineral oil (MO) or alkylbenzene (AB) lubricants, and you can continue using the same oil without any replacement as long as you are still running R22.
R22 does not require POE oil — POE is only mandatory for refrigerants like R410A, which cannot operate with mineral or AB oil.
As long as your system remains on R22, the original lubricant is fully compatible and won’t affect compressor performance or lifespan.
Why is my R22 system not cooling?
The most common cause is R22 refrigerant leakage or insufficient refrigerant, which prevents proper heat exchange.
Check for leaks, repair the line, and recharge the system with the correct amount of R22.
Are there any special requirements for the charging method of R22?
Yes, R22 has specific charging requirements!
R22 is a single-component refrigerant, so it must be charged in vapor form, not liquid. Charging liquid R22 may cause liquid slugging and damage the compressor.
What applications is R22 suitable for?
✅ R22 Applications
R22 is widely used in residential, commercial, and light industrial HVAC systems. Typical applications include:
- ❄ Air conditioners – window units, split systems, and central AC
- ❄ Heat pumps – both residential and commercial
- ❄ Refrigeration – small to medium cold storage and display cases
- ❄ Chillers – for offices, hotels, and industrial cooling
R22 is suitable for systems designed specifically for HCFC refrigerants, providing stable performance under normal operating conditions.
It is not compatible with newer R410A systems and should only be used in equipment labeled for R22.
